For the Washington Nationals, nothing has gone as expected in 2018. That includes the recovery of second baseman Daniel Murphy (who returned this season from offseason microfracture surgery).

Murphy has recorded only 182 plate appearances in 2018, and against southpaws, he's really struggled to the tune of a .292 wOBA, .093 isolated power (ISO), and 18.0% hard-hit rate.

Even though he faces St. Louis Cardinals rookie Austin Gomber, who has a 4.75 skill-interactive ERA (SIERA) in 31 1/3 innings this year, Murphy is not a great option at the turn key slot.
