It may look like the season-long grind is finally getting to the seemingly ageless Yadier Molina. Yet the veteran's recent lull at the plate (.192/.276/.327 over his last 14 games) doesn't quite mesh with his peripherals. Molina is stroking a 55.6% hard-contact rate in his last 58 plate appearances, coupled with 22.2% liners and his customarily low 6.0% swinging-strike rate.
Molina has tallied 45.3% hard contact and 30.7% line drives against lefties this year, so he makes for an interesting contrarian play against tough Dodgers lefties Alex Wood and Hyun-jin Ryu early in the week. The veteran backstop also looks like a strong play when the Cardinals travel to Colorado over the weekend, as the hitter-friendly environment should push his depressed FanDuel salary into only the low $3,000s.
