The Pittsburgh Pirates are likely to stack a pile of left-handed bats tonight against Julio Teheran, and for good reason: the Atlanta Braves righty has been one of the worst pitchers in the league in this split.
Over 61 innings pitched against lefties, Teheran owns a 5.80 xFIP, 17.7% walk rate, 1.33 HR/9, and 42.0% fly-ball rate in 2018. Teheran has allowed 47 base hits to lefties this year, and 20 of them (42.5%) have gone for extra-bases. Yeesh.
Enter Josh Bell, who's performed very well since a recent stint on the disabled list. Over the last two weeks, Bell has walked at a healthy clip (14.5%) while still hitting for solid power marks (.170 ISO). For a cheap option at first base, Bell could do some serious damage.
