After starting out 2018 a bit slow, Paul Goldschmidt has gotten back to absolutely raking. He's now up to 32 home runs and a .402 wOBA, posting stellar fantasy numbers yet again.
What's interesting, however, is Goldy's pronounced splits against lefties and righties. This season against same-sided arms, Goldschmidt has declined significantly in both isolated power (.303 to .237, respectively) and strikeout rate (19.5% to 26.9%).
Those are still some very solid numbers, but they become a bit more concerning when you peep Kevin Gausman's stats as a member of the Atlanta Braves. Against righties over the last month, Gausman has only allowed a .167 batting average, 27.8% fly-ball rate, and .212 wOBA.
Goldy is still a beast, but adding in the effect of the Chase Field humidor, which has dropped the home run factor from 4th last season to 20th this season, his hefty price-tag means you should look elsewhere at first base tonight.
