Another guy suffering the effects of a low BABIP, Gary Sanchez has a .304 wOBA in 2018 after posting a .425 wOBA in 2016 and .368 clip in 2017.
His BABIP sits at an absurdly low .194 after checking in at .304 and .317 in the last two seasons. Yes, his contact has been worse (36.1% hard-hit rate and 19.3% soft-hit rate), but those are still solid enough marks and do not come close to explaining away a BABIP that low. We can count on his numbers improving significantly, even if the way he's hitting the ball doesn't change.
He has also shown that he's still got plenty of power, with a .229 ISO over 313 plate appearances.
The Minnesota Twins are expected to roll with Tyler Duffey as an "opener" for a couple of innings tonight, and with their active relievers sitting bottom-12 in xFIP (4.22) on the year, this approach leaves the New York Yankees' offense boasting plenty of upside.
