The 2018 version of Clayton Kershaw may not be as deadly as we've seen in the past, but his numbers are certainly nothing to scoff at. He still has a nasty 3.28 skill-interactive ERA (SIERA) with a 24.7% strikeout and 4.0% walk rate. He's also forcing soft contact at a higher rate than his career average, generating a 21.5% soft-hit rate in 2018, and his 48.9% ground-ball rate also sits above his career mark.
He brings those numbers into a terrific spot at home tonight against the Colorado Rockies.
With the Rockies spending so much time in Coors Field, we need to give a lot of weight to their home/road splits, and those numbers leave them looking like a prime matchup for Kershaw. The Rox rank 27th in the Majors in wRC+ on the road (80), with a 24.0% strikeout rate (9th-highest).
Their 2.88 implied total is the slate's lowest, and it's no surprise that our models have Kershaw as the day's top pitcher.
