Alex Bregman doesn't quite have Ramirez-type numbers, but his .408 wOBA and .262 ISO against southpaws aren't far off. Same-handed matchups haven't slowed him down much either, with a .396 wOBA and .249 ISO against right-handers. That means that even when Houston shells a southpaw starter and a righty comes out of the bullpen, Bregman continues to offer huge fantasy upside.
Tonight, he'll be in a good spot as Seattle will roll with Matt Festa as their opener in a bullpen game. Festa has only played four Major League games in his career, but those 5 1/3 innings haven't been particularly encouraging, notching the same number of walks and strikeouts while posting a 6.07 xFIP. His Minor League numbers are encouraging, but he skipped over the Triple-A level, so the Majors represent a big step up in competition for him.
An unproven guy like Festa does not stand to fare well against a slugger like Bregman. Play the slugger with confidence tonight.
