The Minnesota Twins boast a juicy 5.16 implied total tonight in a matchup with right-hander Spencer Turnbull and the Detroit Tigers.
Turnbull has pitched in just two Major League games, but his lone start was egregious. He lasted only four innings, getting shelled for six earned runs. We don't have a significant sample to draw on for him at any level above Double-A (where he turned in a 4.47 ERA but a less-worrying 3.45 xFIP over 19 starts this year), but the 26-year-old looks like he will make for an exploitable matchup until he gets used to pitching at the MLB level.
Like Nick Williams, Jake Cave is a youngster who hasn't found his footing as far as consistency goes, but his power has already impressed. His .326 wOBA and 33.7% strikeout rate are not great marks, but he makes up for that by turning a 37.1% hard-hit rate and 8.8% soft-hit rate into a .207 ISO.
Against right-handed pitching (218 plate appearances), his strikeout rate is still worrying at 31.7%, but his ISO jumps to .219 while his wOBA goes up to .349. He offers no shortage of upside here, and in a great matchup against Turnbull, his floor is higher than we're used to seeing from him, as well.
