NFBC ADP: 268th
Draft Round: 23rd
Moving back into the rotation for the Houston Astros, Collin McHugh and his late-round status make for an interesting draft target this season.
After logging 102 starts for Houston from 2014 to 2017, McHugh worked as a reliever a season ago, recording 1.99 ERA over 72 1/3 innings pitched with a 33.2% strikeout rate. Those nasty numbers were largely thanks to a curveball and changeup that each generated a swinging-strike rate of more than 20.0%.
While moving back into a starting role means McHugh won't be going all-out with each pitch, leading to an inevitable drop from his 2018 strikeout rate, the Astros seem to have unlocked some magic with their starting pitchers. And pitching for what should be one of baseball's top squads, McHugh should have a good shot to rack up a decent number of wins.
