The New York Yankees will open the 2019 campaign with their ace on the mend as they look to fight through what should be one of the more competitive division races in baseball.
Their stop gap to begin the season is hard-throwing righty Domingo German, who ran rather hot and cold for the Bombers during his first extended taste of big league action in 2018. The 26-year-old tantalized fantasy owners with a 27.2% strikeouts across 85 2/3 frames, but his fastball took a beating, surrendering a .337 isolated slugging across 434 offerings with a 19.4% home-per-fly rate.
German is a feast-or-famine play to say the least, but he's in a nice spot to start the season on the right foot against what figure to be two of the poorest offenses in the American League in the Tigers and Orioles. Risk-averse streamers should probably look elsewhere, but deep-leaguers willing to the roll the dice can certainly give German a long look.
