After a disappointing loss to open the season to the Seattle Mariners, Andrew Benintendi and the Boston Red Sox will look to get back on track today against southpaw Yusei Kikuchi.

Unfortunately, that could spell trouble for Benintendi. A season ago, the lefty swinger struggled in these situations, recording a .301 wOBA, 24.4% strikeout rate, and .147 isolated power (ISO) versus left-handers.

This being Kikuchi's inaugural season in the US, there's not a lot of data to draw from on his performance against fellow lefties. But given Benintendi's struggles a season ago in this spot, he may be worth pivoting away from.
