After signing a mega deal with the San Diego Padres prior to the 2018 season, Eric Hosmer was a bit of a disappointment last year, logging a .309 wOBA, 18 home runs, and a 29.0% hard-hit rate.
Those struggles were amplified by same-sided pitchers, and Hosmer faces another one tonight in Derek Holland. Spanning 242 plate appearances in the platoon split, the Padres first baseman recorded a paltry .179 batting average, .108 ISO, .234 wOBA, and 21.1% fly-ball rate.
Perhaps 2019 will turn a corner for Hosmer, but without better production in this spot, he's one to shy away from.
