Price: $9,300
This isn't exactly a great slate to pay up at pitcher, and our models actually project Julio Urias ($7,200) for the top fantasy score at the position. The top projection for a pitcher priced north of $8,000, though, belongs to David Price, and if you're set on paying up, he's your guy.
Price and the Boston Red Sox are reasonably sized -138 favorites against an Oakland Athletics side that is left with a middling 3.76 implied total.
The A's are coming off a 2018 campaign in which they struck out at a top-12 rate (22.1%) against southpaws, and while that mark is down to 17.1% so far in 2019, that's over a wholly unreliable 82 plate appearances.
Price's 2018 numbers showed plenty of promise, too. After posting a shaky 4.05 skill-interactive ERA (SIERA) in 2017, he bounced back with a 3.82 in that area, while his strikeout rate climbed slightly to 24.5% (his fifth consecutive year with a mark above 24.0%) and his walk rate fell to 6.9% (just 0.6% above his career-average).
Our models also give Price the third-highest probability of scoring a win among today's starters.
