Price: $3,000
He's on the more expensive end of the value spectrum, but Travis Shaw has no business being this cheap, making him an easy pick as one of the day's top value plays.
Three of Monday's games still don't have betting lines set as of Monday morning, but of the 12 teams that do have odds set, the Milwaukee Brewers' 5.07-run implied total is the highest by a margin of 0.36 runs.
The St. Louis Cardinals' bullpen makes for a soft matchup for the Brewers tonight. Their relievers rank bottom-five in the majors in xFIP as a group, and with usual-reliever Dakota Hudson starting, we can expect to see plenty of those relievers. Only two of Hudson's 29 appearances over his first two seasons have come as a starter, and he didn't hit five innings in either of those two starts. His 4.70 skill-interactive ERA (SIERA) through 9 2/3 innings this year brings his career SIERA to 4.90, so even when he is in the game, he's not much of a threat to slow down the Brewers.
Shaw has an awful .272 wOBA through 14 games to start 2019, but with a 46.7% hard-hit rate that's actually on pace to be a career-high clip -- as well as a 16.7% soft-hit rate that sits below his career average -- there's no reason to be concerned yet. He's coming off back-to-back seasons with a wOBA of at least .350 and an ISO of at least .230, and his slow start to the year has driven down his salary far lower than it should be.
