3 MLB FanDuel Studs to Target on 4/24/19
J.D. Martinez is hitting the ball as well as ever, and we can expect his production to climb as a result. Which other high-priced players should you build your lineup around?

J.D. Martinez, OF, Boston Red Sox

Price: $4,100

J.D. Martinez is up to his usual tricks, and he's crushing baseballs like few other hitters. His 94.3 mile-per-hour average exit velocity is on pace to be the highest of his career, and he's on pace to finish in the top 4% of hitters in that category for the third straight year.

His .396 wOBA and .193 ISO may look underwhelming, but those are likely being held down by variance here. Despite making the same kind of contact we've always seen from him, only 13.3% of his fly balls have turned into home runs. His career-average sits at 20.8%, and the last two years had seen 33.8% and 29.5% of his fly balls go yard. With a long-established history of strong numbers in that area and 2019 contact numbers that rival the best of his career, we can expect his production to climb back to the heights we've seen in the last couple seasons.

This is a good spot for him to bounce back, too, as Detroit Tigers righty Tyson Ross looks like he's in for another rough season. Ross finished with a 6.17 SIERA in 2017 and 4.55 in 2018, and so far this year he's up to a 4.85.
