The Chicago White Sox have had a far from stellar season through 30 games and have been abysmal away from the Windy City. Their 37 runs scored and six home runs on the road are second worst in the MLB and the team’s .236 batting average is 10 points below league average. The pitching staff is allowing an unacceptable amount of runs on the road. In 13 games, the White Sox have allowed opponents to score five runs or more seven times. Allowing runs and not scoring any is a bad recipe for success.
Wily Peralta has given up five homers at home, not optimal, but his 3.86 earned run average (ERA) and 1.21 Walks and Hits per Innings Pitched (WHIP) are keeping his overall ERA and WHIP below 4.00 and 1.50, respectively and an indication that his stats aren’t telling the entire story. Peralta held one of baseball’s best offenses -- the Dodgers -- to two earned runs over eight innings in his last home start on May 6.
Peralta is not the sexiest streamer option, but against teams like the White Sox, he’s worth an early week spot start. He is a two-start pitcher this week and his second start is an avoidable one at Citi Field against the Mets. His .383 opponent average and 4.09 ERA away from Milwaukee are enough to stay away.
