Despite a mediocre showing against the Angels last week, Drew Hutchison is a solid streamer at home Monday. The Chicago White Sox come to town as one of the worst road offenses that plays into Hutchison’s abilities. Hutchison has shown better control as of late and should be able to get a swing first, ask questions later team like Chicago to miss pitches and hit the ball on the ground.
The White Sox average a miniscule 3.7 runs on the road and possess a .666 on-base plus slugging percentage. That’s right, the number of the beast is Chicago’s OPS, which has to have some extra meaning even though Halloween is over six months away. Chicago also has a league-worst 10 home runs on the road and their 44 walks is 28th overall. Hutchison is giving up a home run approximately once every eight innings pitched and has walked five in 22.0 frames in May.
The White Sox lead the majors with a 1.18 groundball-to-fly ball ratio and have grounded into 27 double plays, the worst by six over the Marlins.
Hutchison also gets a road start in Minnesota, a team that is performing well at home. Do no push your luck with Hutchison this week. The Twins may regress at some point, but unless you’re willing to play streamer roulette, sit tight.
