The surprise team of the season received another nice shock when Lance McCullers went in to Detroit May 23 and beat the high-powered Tigers offense. McCullers has now pitched 10.2 innings this season while allowing three runs while striking out 11 and walking four. His next start is at home against the White Sox.
Chicago will be halfway through an 11-game road trip that takes them to Toronto and Baltimore before a weekend series in Houston. The White Sox have been pretty bad on the road as was mentioned earlier. The White Sox have hit a homer once every 64 at-bats away from the friendly confines, third worst in baseball, and their 41 road extra base hits is tied for worst in baseball with the Mets. McCullers has given up nine hits total with four being doubles. To reiterate from earlier, the White Sox do not like to walk, so if McCullers has his command in control he could be in for a low-walk, high strikeout day (he has 11 K’s in 10.2 innings pitched).
