FanDuel Price: $7,200
While Garcia and deGrom have superb matchups and their price tag reflects it, Kyle Hendricks checks in as our third-ranked value play for the day due in large part to a matchup with the Nationals. There’s a lot of baseball left this year, but this series could be a preview of the National League Championship Series as Washington (19-8) and Chicago (20-6) have the two best records in the game.
While the Nationals are flying high, their offense has been average. Washington ranks 15th in wOBA (.313) and 16th in walk rate (8.3), but they can play a little long ball, checking in eighth in homers (34).
The Cubs’ pitching staff has been ridiculous, and Hendricks has been a big part of that. His 3.03 SIERA is tops among Chicago’s starters. Yes, better than Jake Arrieta. Hendricks owns a 20.7 percent strikeout rate and 4.4 percent walk rate.
Hendricks is our third-ranked pitcher for Thursday. We forecast him to total 33.9 points by permitting 2.20 earned runs on 5.44 hits and 1.60 walks while striking out 5.62 batters over 6.36 frames.
