Jose Berrios, Minnesota Twins, 38 percent owned
Probable Starts:
Monday 5/9 vs Baltimore
Sunday 5/15 at Cleveland
Jose Berrios hasn't been nearly as bad through his first two career starts as his ERA suggests, as his 3.86 xFIP looks much better than his 6.75 ERA. He has shown his upside with a 12.54 K/9, but has struggled mightily with his command, which is uncharacteristic of his Minor League numbers. He won his last start against a tough Houston lineup and struck out eight batters along the way. His arrow is clearly pointing up, and he has two starts this week.
Both of his opponents are in the top ten in wOBA against right-handed pitching this season, so there is certainly some risk. However, they are both in the top 13 in strikeout rate against righties, too, so there's also a fair bit of upside.
He needs to be owned for the long haul, but you might not get a chance to add him if he pitches well in his two tough matchups this week.
