FanDuel Price: $9,900
Why He Will Go Overlooked:
Most of the attention among top-end pitchers is likely to go to Felix Hernandez and Max Scherzer, who have the two lowest implied team totals against them on tonight's slate. That should leave Masahiro Tanaka underowned, even in a terrific matchup.
Why You Should Use Him:
Tanaka's strikeouts are down to begin the year, but his swinging strike rate (12.5 percent) is still right in line with his career average, so there's little cause for concern. His SIERA is a respectable 3.37, and he is inducing ground balls at a career-high 55.4 percent rate.
While Tanaka is certainly pitching well this season, that isn't what makes him so intriguing tonight. What should have you excited to roster the electric righty is his matchup against the free-swinging Tampa Bay Rays.
Tampa Bay ranks 21st in wOBA against right-handed pitching, but they strike out like it's their job, posting a 26.3 percent strikeout rate against righties. For an example of the strikeout potential they offer the opposing pitcher, look no further than Jose Fernandez's 12 punchout game against them yesterday.
Scherzer is probably the safer option for cash games if you can fit him in, but Tanaka's upside in this matchup is certainly worth your attention in tournaments.
