FanDuel Price: $9,600
Why He Will Go Overlooked:
Max Scherzer and Noah Syndergaard are both likely to be popular, as will be Kenta Maeda. Yu Darvish will likely be the next most popular pitcher, as some will be scared off by Houston's bats, while others will be scared off by any potential lingering pitch count.
Why You Should Use Him:
Darvish hasn't shown much rust coming off of Tommy John surgery, averaging 40 FanDuel points in two starts and striking out 12 batters in 10.2 innings. He was kept on an 85-to-95 pitch limit in the first two games, a number he could see move up tonight.
Darvish's opponent today, the Astros, rank 13th in wOBA against right-handed pitching, which makes this far from a safe matchup. However, their 25.1 percent strikeout rate against righties ranks third in the league and offers Darvish a fair amount of strikeout potential.
In case you don't remember what a dominant punchout artist Darvish was prior to surgery, the right-hander posted consecutive seasons with a 30-plus percent strikeout rate and 11-plus strikeouts per nine innings. So far this season, he has a 27.9 percent strikeout rate with a swinging strike rate of 13 percent, which is actually higher than his career 12.1 percent mark.
There are enough question marks to push him out of cash game consideration, but he is as enticing of a tournament option as there is today.
