Scott Kazmir has struggled a bit this season, posting a 4.05 SIERA, his worst mark since coming back to the bigs in 2013. Kazmir’s 22.0% hard-hit rate is actually a career-low clip, and his 23.8% strikeout rate is pretty sweet, too. The biggest obstacle for Kazmir has been throwing strikes, as he is sporting a 9.2% walk rate.
He gets an attractive home matchup tonight against the Milwaukee Brewers. In his first year with Los Angeles, Kazmir has taken a liking to Dodger Stadium. He owns a 3.64 xFIP at home, compared to an ugly 4.75 xFIP on the road.
Milwaukee has a slightly below average offense. The Brewers check in 18th in wOBA (.313), 17th in ISO (.149) and 19th in long balls (69), but they’ve been decidedly worse away from home. On the road, they’ve put up a .295 wOBA, .127 ISO and 26 home runs, all of which rank among the bottom six offenses in all of baseball.
Those numbers should be exacerbated by Dodger Stadium, the fourth-best pitchers’ park in baseball, per ESPN’s Park Factors. The Brewers implied total for tonight is 3.34 runs, the lowest clip of the slate.
