Trayce Thompson has worked himself into a starting gig with the Dodgers, usually hitting in the middle of the order. Despite swinging from the right side of the plate, Thompson has hit righties better than lefties this year, posting a .375 wOBA against right-handed hurlers.
Thompson’s numbers this year are superb. He has a .365 wOBA, .253 ISO and 11.2% walk rate with 11 home runs and 4 steals. His 28.9% home-run-to-fly-ball ratio is due for some regression, but his .283 BABIP is likely due for some regression the other way.
As was said with Hernandez, Garza, the Brewers’ starter, makes for a nice target today. In 148 2/3 innings a year ago, Garza gave up a .346 wOBA to right-handed hitters and finished the year with an ugly 4.68 SIERA.
