Steven Matz didn’t have a great 2016 debut, as he allowed seven earned runs in his first start of the season. Since that disaster, though, he’s been dominant, allowing two earned runs or less in all but one start.
He has a great combination of strikeout rate (9.08 K/9) and inducing groundballs (52.3 percent), making him an excellent option any time he takes the mound.
He gets one of the best matchups in baseball tonight, as the Braves are dead last against left-handed pitching with an embarrassing .080 ISO and .260 wOBA. They’ve hit just nine home runs this year against lefties, with the Phillies being the only team who has hit less.
Matz may not have the upside we want for GPPs, as he has no 10-plus strikeout games this season, but as a strong Vegas favorite, he’s a solid cash game option if you’re not paying up for Scherzer.
