Lefty Matt Moore will draw the start for the Tampa Bay Rays on Thursday against Oakland.
Moore hasn't posted a SIERA better than 4.15 since his rookie season (in which he played only three games), and has a 4.40 this year. He is also in the midst of his third-straight season with a strikeout rate below 20.0 percent and has given up 1.47 home runs per nine innings.
His numbers against right-handed hitters are even worse, and he's allowing a .327 wOBA with a 4.87 xFIP and 34.1 percent hard-hit rate against righties this season.
Danny Valencia has looked good from the plate this season, with a .354 wOBA and .180 isolated slugging, and has absolutely crushed lefties, with a .357/.423/.629 slash. With the favorable position Oakland righties are in tonight, it's easy to like Valencia here.
