Jason Hammel has been activated off the bereavement list and will start against the Los Angeles Angels Wednesday night at Wrigley Field.
After a red-hot stretch, the Angels’ lineup is back to struggling, posting a .300 wOBA over the last 14 days. For the year, they’re sporting a .319 wOBA, but the Halos’ MLB-best 15.5% strikeout rate does cap Hammel’s upside a bit.
Much like Garcia, Hammel is having a good-not-great season, pitching to a 4.24 SIERA with a 20.7% strikeout rate and 7.6% walk rate. Hammel’s strikeout rate spiked to 24.6% in July, and he’s limiting hitters to a meager .263 wOBA in his home outings. As an added bonus, the wind is blowing in today at Wrigley.
Hammel is our second-ranked hurler, and while may be other options -- like, say, Drew Pomeranz -- with higher upside, he’s a fairly safe pick for cash games.
