As is the case in most daily fantasy sports, finding information on players you might want to roster is a lot easier than finding players to avoid.
While you can get away with a zero from a hitter in daily fantasy, you certainly don't want to target guys whose matchups aren't enticing.
Here are three hitters you may want to lessen your exposure to or even fade altogether on Thursday.
Willson Contreras, C, Chicago Cubs
FanDuel Price: $2,900
Despite Thursday’s ultra-short, three-game slate, there are still some landmine players. One of those is Willson Contreras. The Chicago Cubs' youngster has been mashing the ball since being called up, but he has a tough matchup tonight against Jeff Samardzija, who has limited right-handed sticks to a .285 wOBA.
Contreras has been hitting well recently, averaging just under 15 FanDuel points per game in the last four contests he has started. However, he has also shown some problems with right-handers so far in his brief major league career, striking out 24.5% of the time against righties. Cubs' lefties will be in a much better spot tonight.
Martin Prado, 3B, Miami Marlins
FanDuel Price: $2,900
Martin Prado is having a huge bounce-back season, but he still poses some risk tonight in DFS as he faces off against Jacob deGrom. The New York Mets' righty has pitched better against lefties this season, but right-handers have also had problems.
Righties own a .319 wOBA and 24.6% strikeout rate against deGrom this season, which makes Prado’s splits even more concerning. Prado has just a .308 wOBA, .102 ISO and 24.7% hard-hit rate against righties this year.
Eddie Rosario, OF, Minnesota Twins
FanDuel Price: $2,900
Eddie Rosario has a hit in each of his last six games, but his small hitting streak might come to an end tonight as the Minnesota Twins see lefty Jose Quintana.
Quintana has been great against left-handed hitters this season. Southpaws own a .243 wOBA, 22.4% strikeout rate and a meager 27.9 fly-ball rate versus Quintana.
For his career, Rosario has a .307 wOBA and 25.0% strikeout rate against lefties. Only four of his 21 career homers have come off southpaws. With Quintana on the mound, who has given up only two jacks to lefties this season, Rosario's upside is pretty nonexistent.
