4 Daily Fantasy Baseball Stacks for 9/20/16
Stacking can be a controversial topic in many daily fantasy sports, but you can count baseball as a glaring exception. Here, it's universal.
Using multiple players on the same team on a given day presents you with the opportunity to double dip. If one of your players hits an RBI double, there's a good chance he drove in another one of your guys. When you get the points for both the run and the RBI, you'll be climbing the leaderboards fast.
Each day here on numberFire, we'll go through four offenses ripe for the stacking. They could have a great matchup, be in a great park, or just have a lot of quality sticks in the lineup, but these are the offenses primed for big days that you may want a piece of.
Premium members can use our new stacking feature to customize their stacks within their optimal lineups for the day, choosing the team you want to stack and how many players you want to include. You can also check out our hitting heat map, which provides an illustration of which offenses have the best combination of matchup and potency.
Now, let's get to the stacks. As always, we will not include today's game at Coors Field here. Coors is great for DFS, but you likely don't need me to tell you that. Here are the other teams you should be targeting in daily fantasy baseball today.
Detroit Tigers
Looking at the Detroit Tigers' lineup, you'd think they'd be able to blast left-handed pitching into the sun. Instead, they're only 16th in wRC+ against southpaws, sitting behind offensive juggernauts like the Kansas City Royals, Chicago White Sox, and Milwaukee Brewers. All of that could change tonight as they face Hector Santiago.
Santiago's another guy whose numbers may be a bit deceiving at first glance. He has a 1.80 ERA over his past four starts, and -- most importantly -- he has only allowed a pair of dingers. However, he has as many walks as strikeouts, pushing his SIERA up to 6.32 over that span with a 41.0% hard-hit rate. He has a 5.53 SIERA in the second half overall, so this isn't a short stretch of struggles, and the Tigers are waiting to pounce.
J.D. Martinez is one of the best hitters in the league against lefties, and Miguel Cabrera and Justin Upton straight rake. None of those guys lead the team in hard-hit rate against lefties, an honor that belongs to this bad, bad man.
James McCann has turned his 127 plate appearances versus left-handed pitchers this year into a 48.1% hard-hit rate and 46.7% fly-ball rate. He bats a bit deeper in the order, but he's a must-have if you're stacking the Tigers against Santiago.
