MLB Daily Fantasy Helper: Friday 8/23/13
Andrew McCutchen brings an elite combination of power and speed to our optimized lineup.

We know that people play all sorts of fantasy platforms, not just from from our friends at StarStreet but on other platforms such as FanDuel, Draft Kings, and Fantasy Feud as well. So once again, we have four optimized rosters, all for you, the numberFire reader. One is for free here; the others can be found in our Premium section.

As always, the full tables for today's action are available at our Daily Fantasy Projections page. Make sure to check it out to see where the best values are for your team.

Our baseball projections are updated throughout the day, so make sure to come back to double-check your optimized rosters for any last-minute lineup changes. Since most action happens later in the day, we will be ignoring the early games (if there are any) and focusing solely on the late contests. That way, you can use and tinker with our optimized rosters throughout the day.

The Top Two Pitchers

Gio Gonzalez – Gonzalez’s stellar 9.20 K/9 ranks 7th in the N.L., and his 3.38 ERA isn’t shabby either. Tonight he faces the Royals, who rank just 13th in the A.L. in runs scored. Plus the Royals are a team featuring lefties as two of their three best hitter, and the one righty – Billy Butler – is putting up a reverse platoon split this year.

Tom Koehler – In 16 starts this year, the rookie Koehler has put up a 4.66 ERA (but with a 4.10 FIP) and 6.33 K/9. So basically he’s a budget option at starter. He does have the advantage of facing a Colorado team that struggles on the road. The Rockies have hit .282 and slugged .450 at Coors Field – both marks would lead the league – but just .249 and .386 on the road.

Top High-Priced Hitters

Andrew McCutchen – We told you all about McCutchen and his power/speed combo yesterday. Among the players with 26 steals, only two have hit more homers than Cutch. Tonight he faces a lefty in Madison Bumgarner; McCutchen is hitting .363 off lefties on the year.

Paul Goldschmidt – Goldschmidt has a claim as the second-best offensive first baseman in the game right now. He ranks second at the position in homers (31), on-base percentage (.396) and slugging (.551). Sure, most people would take Joey Votto and Chris Davis over him, but Goldschmidt is in that discussion.

Cost-Effective Mid-Range Hitters

Jonathan Lucroy – If you need a cheap catcher, Lucroy’s your guy. He’s got a very solid .289/.341/.487 line on the year to go along with 17 home runs. His 126 wRC+ ranks fifth among qualified backstops. And his 17 homers trail only Wilin Rosario, Matt Wieters and J.P. Arrencibia.

Leonys Martin – The Texas speedster is a bit of a one-dimensional fantasy player, but that’s OK. He does his one thing – stealing bases – well, and his 27 steals rank 12th in the majors, even though he’s only gotten 381 plate appearances.
