The Top Three Pitchers
Zach Greinke – Dominant may not be enough to describe Greinke's pitching over the last couple of months. The last time he gave up more than 2 earned runs was in July against the Reds, you guys. Incredible. Though he's costly, we like him daily tonight against the Giants.
Jeremy Hellickson – Though Hellickson is just 1-2 in his last three and just recently picked up his first win in quite some time, he's been solid against the Sox, posting a 2.77 ERA in two starts agains them this year. Watch out for Big Papi though, who's had Hellickson's name.
Jeff Locke – Diggin' deep with "What happened to me after the All Star Break?" Jeff Locke, but we like the matchup enough against the Cubs to use him as a value play in a Thursday night of few baseball games. Expect his usual walks though.
Top High-Priced Hitters
Alex Rodriguez – A-Rod's actually been hitting the ball well, having a hit in his last four including mult-hit games in three of his last four contests. He'll be facing Wei-Yin Chen, a pitcher with an 8.56 ERA over his last three outings.
David Ortiz – I mentioned this earlier, but Ortiz has had Thursday's probable Jeremy Hellickson's name. In 28 at bats, Big Papi's got a .500 on-base percentage and a .773 slugging percentage. He's a great play tonight.
Cost-Effective, Mid-Range Hitters
Jesus Guzman – Guzman's had a solid month, and we're expecting that to continue into tonight against Roy Halladay and the Phillies. According to our metrics, he's got a good chance of scoring a run and bringing in an RBI or two.
Carlos Ruiz – Ruiz has seven total hits in his last seven games, continuing his August pace. Of all the cost-effective players, Ruiz looks to have the highest chance at getting a hit tonight against the Padres, according to our metrics.
