Stacking can be a controversial topic in many daily fantasy sports, but you can count baseball as a glaring exception. Here, it's universal.
Using multiple players on the same team on a given day presents you with the opportunity to double dip. If one of your players hits an RBI double, there's a good chance he drove in another one of your guys. When you get the points for both the run and the RBI, you'll be climbing the leaderboards fast.
Each day here on numberFire, we'll go through four offenses ripe for the stacking. They could have a great matchup, be in a great park, or just have a lot of quality sticks in the lineup, but these are the offenses primed for big days that you may want a piece of.
Premium members can use our new stacking feature to customize their stacks within their optimal lineups for the day, choosing the team you want to stack and how many players you want to include. You can also check out our hitting heat map, which provides an illustration of which offenses have the best combination of matchup and potency.
Now, let's get to the stacks. Here are the teams you should be targeting in daily fantasy baseball today.
Miami Marlins
Entering the season, Blake Snell was a young pitcher who got plenty of strikeouts but struggled with issuing free passes. This year, the walks are still there, but the strikeouts have dried up, shooting his SIERA to 5.91. That would seem to be the opposite of what we're going for here.
All in all, Snell has as many walks as strikeouts, and his two starts at home have both featured a whopping five bases on balls. His ERA certainly isn't bad at 3.42, but you can't hold a mark that low when you're letting this many guys get on base. That's especially true when he's allowing a 38.5% fly-ball rate, meaning those walks can all come on home in just one swing when he's facing the wrong opponent. Ya think Giancarlo Stanton and Marcell Ozuna qualify as such?
Although Stanton and Ozuna are the two centerpieces of a Miami Marlins stack, they're not the only guys who have interesting marks against lefties. You've also got to consider a guy like Martin Prado, whose hard-hit rate is 35.6% since the start of 2016. Both Jacob Realmuto and Miguel Rojas have above-average fly-ball rates against lefties over that span, and they're cheap plays on FanDuel. Guys like Prado and Realmuto -- although not elite -- help you afford Stanton and Ozuna, and they can help give you access to the expensive pitching we'll want on this slate, helping justify the Marlins as being one of the more enticing stacks of the day.
