Stacking can be a controversial topic in many daily fantasy sports, but you can count baseball as a glaring exception. Here, it's universal.
Using multiple players on the same team on a given day presents you with the opportunity to double dip. If one of your players hits an RBI double, there's a good chance he drove in another one of your guys. When you get the points for both the run and the RBI, you'll be climbing the leaderboards fast.
Each day here on numberFire, we'll go through four offenses ripe for the stacking. They could have a great matchup, be in a great park, or just have a lot of quality sticks in the lineup, but these are the offenses primed for big days that you may want a piece of.
Premium members can use our new stacking feature to customize their stacks within their optimal lineups for the day, choosing the team you want to stack and how many players you want to include. You can also check out our hitting heat map, which provides an illustration of which offenses have the best combination of matchup and potency.
Now, let's get to the stacks. With the split slates, we'll be focusing exclusively on the main slate beginning at 7 pm Eastern. Here are the teams you should be targeting in daily fantasy baseball today.
Arizona Diamondbacks
There is no game at Coors Field on the main slate, and yet we still have one game with an over/under of 10 runs. That's between the Arizona Diamondbacks and Detroit Tigers, and you can bet your bum that we'll be loving both sides of that matchup.
We'll start with the Diamondbacks, who will be squaring off with lefty Matt Boyd. Boyd has been generating some whiffs this year with a 9.8% swinging-strike rate, but most other indicators are expressing some cause for concern. He has walked 11.3% of opposing batters with multiple walks issued in every start, and opponents have a 38.8% hard-hit rate against him. He does benefit from facing a team without a designated hitter today, but it happens while moving to a park that is much more friendly to hitters than his normal abode. Although there's some risk in targeting a high-strikeout team against a pitcher like this, the upside fully justifies it.
You're going to want to snag Yasmany Tomas and Paul Goldschmidt if you can afford to. They both have hard-hit rates above 45.0% against lefties since the start of last year, and they can go deep whenever a southpaw's on the bump. From a cheaper perspective, Chris Owings figures to bat second due the Boyd's handedness, and he has been a revelation this year.
There it goes. The 1st ball Chris Owings swings at and Gio Gonzalez's homerless streak vs. #Dbacks hitters.

It's fine to be skeptical about a guy who's $3,200 on FanDuel and hasn't been a big offensive threat prior to the season. But that guy has a 35.6% hard-hit rate overall this season with just an 11.5% soft-hit rate, and he already has 8 stolen bases. This is a player on whom we should be willing to buy high. Pair him with Brandon Drury at $2,700, and you may be able to afford some of the big bats in the order.
