Stacking can be a controversial topic in many daily fantasy sports, but you can count baseball as a glaring exception. Here, it's universal.
Using multiple players on the same team on a given day presents you with the opportunity to double dip. If one of your players hits an RBI double, there's a good chance he drove in another one of your guys. When you get the points for both the run and the RBI, you'll be climbing the leaderboards fast.
Each day here on numberFire, we'll go through four offenses ripe for the stacking. They could have a great matchup, be in a great park, or just have a lot of quality sticks in the lineup, but these are the offenses primed for big days that you may want a piece of.
Premium members can use our new stacking feature to customize their stacks within their optimal lineups for the day, choosing the team you want to stack and how many players you want to include. You can also check out our hitting heat map, which provides an illustration of which offenses have the best combination of matchup and potency.
Now, let's get to the stacks.
Seattle Mariners
In taking a look at offenses to target for potential stacks tonight, one that certainly sticks out is the Seattle Mariners and their matchup with fading ace Cole Hamels.
The southpaw has taken a major step back this year, logging a 4.99 SIERA, a 15.5% strikeout rate, and an inflated 8.2% walk rate. However, that walk rate isn't too surprising since he's throwing a first-pitch strike just 55.6% of the time -- that number is nearly five full percentage points below his career average (60.4%).
Righties haven't been too kind to him, either. They've knocked him around for a 36.1% hard-hit rate and 33.0% fly-ball rate, resulting in a .311 wOBA.
With that in mind, Seattle has two top-of-the-order hitters that are righties in Jean Segura ($3,100) and Mitch Haniger ($3,000). Segura has shown himself to be adept against southpaws, posting a 37.9% hard-hit rate and 32.6% fly-ball rate in 2017, while Haniger has also rocked lefties to the tune of a .203 ISO.
If these dudes can get on base, which seems likely, we could get one of these treats from Nelson Cruz.
Cruz ($4,200) has made a career out of crushing the platoon advantage, and 2017 has been no different. He's posted a 133 wRC+, 42.1% hard-hit rate, and 40.9% fly-ball rate with the platoon advantage so far this year.
To round out the stack, check out minimum-priced Carlos Ruiz ($2,000) at the catcher slot. Chooch has recorded a hefty .200 ISO and 35.3% hard-hit rate against lefty hurlers this year.
