Stacking can be a controversial topic in many daily fantasy sports, but you can count baseball as a glaring exception. Here, it's universal.
Using multiple players on the same team on a given day presents you with the opportunity to double dip. If one of your players hits an RBI double, there's a good chance he drove in another one of your guys. When you get the points for both the run and the RBI, you'll be climbing the leaderboards fast.
Each day here on numberFire, we'll go through four offenses ripe for the stacking. They could have a great matchup, be in a great park, or just have a lot of quality sticks in the lineup, but these are the offenses primed for big days that you may want a piece of.
Premium members can use our new stacking feature to customize their stacks within their optimal lineups for the day, choosing the team you want to stack and how many players you want to include. You can also check out our hitting heat map, which provides an illustration of which offenses have the best combination of matchup and potency.
Now, let's get to the stacks.
Texas Rangers
James Shields is one of the best pitchers to target for stacking purposes. He has posted SIERAs of 4.94 or above in three straight years. He continues to have a double-digit walk rate, and his strikeout rate has dipped below 15.0% so far in 2018. Combine that with a 40.3% fly-ball rate, and it's no wonder the Texas Rangers have the third-highest implied team total (4.67) on the slate.
Nomar Mazara ($3,700) has a low fly-ball rate, but his isolated slugging (ISO) is at .230 thanks to a 38.4% hard-hit rate. Joey Gallo ($3,400) still strikes out plenty, but with a 51.0% fly-ball rate and 46.5% hard-hit rate, he has monster upside.
In terms of cheaper bats, Shin-Soo Choo ($3,000) has 42.2% hard-hit rate. Rougned Odor ($2,600) has a career 40.4% fly-ball rate and a 45.9% hard-hit rate on the year. All of Mazara, Gallo, Choo, and Odor have the platoon advantage as left-handed bats facing a right-handed pitcher. Their career wRC+ against right-handed pitching are 107, 113, 139, and 95, respectively.
