Stacking can be a controversial topic in many daily fantasy sports, but you can count baseball as a glaring exception. Here, it's universal.
Using multiple players on the same team on a given day presents you with the opportunity to double dip. If one of your players hits an RBI double, there's a good chance he drove in another one of your guys. When you get the points for both the run and the RBI, you'll be climbing the leaderboards fast.
Each day here on numberFire, we'll go through four offenses ripe for the stacking. They could have a great matchup, be in a great park, or just have a lot of quality sticks in the lineup, but these are the offenses primed for big days that you may want a piece of.
Premium members can use our new stacking feature to customize their stacks within their optimal lineups for the day, choosing the team you want to stack and how many players you want to include. You can also check out our hitting heat map, which provides an illustration of which offenses have the best combination of matchup and potency.
Now, let's get to the stacks. As usual, we will not include today's game at Coors Field in these recommendations. You already know that you want bats at Coors when you can afford them, and you don't need us to tell you. Here are the other teams you should be targeting in daily fantasy baseball today.
Oakland Athletics
Looking for dingers? Well, you've come to the right place with Ian Kennedy taking on an incredibly affordable Oakland Athletics squad tonight. With Khris Davis ($3,400) back, Oakland is showing a strong 4.92 implied team total. Kennedy has allowed over 30 home runs in each of the last 3 seasons and with a 40.3% hard-hit and 30.7% ground-ball rate this year, he appears poised to make that 4 in a row.
This Athletics lineup isn't lacking in the power bats to get it done either. In addition to the aforementioned Davis, Matt Joyce ($2,700), Jed Lowrie ($3,300), Matt Olson ($2,900), and Matt Chapman ($2,700) are all good bets to rain bombs on Kennedy's parade. Olson is particularly exciting at this low price, and is arguably a must if you're stacking this team. Despite his slow start to the year, he trails just J.D. Martinez in hard-hit rate (51.8%) and ranks top five in average exit velocity.
The bottom of the lineup may lack the power of the top half, but they're even cheaper, and are still worth considering if the extra cash helps you fit in Chris Sale, Gerrit Cole, or perhaps a pricey Coors bat. Stephen Piscotty ($2,100), Dustin Fowler ($2,100), and Chad Pinder ($2,300) all have hard-hit rates above 39% this season.
