Stacking can be a controversial topic in many daily fantasy sports, but you can count baseball as a glaring exception. Here, it's universal.
Using multiple players on the same team on a given day presents you with the opportunity to double dip. If one of your players hits an RBI double, there's a good chance he drove in another one of your guys. When you get the points for both the run and the RBI, you'll be climbing the leaderboards fast.
Each day here on numberFire, we'll go through four offenses ripe for the stacking. They could have a great matchup, be in a great park, or just have a lot of quality sticks in the lineup, but these are the offenses primed for big days that you may want a piece of.
Premium members can use our new stacking feature to customize their stacks within their optimal lineups for the day, choosing the team you want to stack and how many players you want to include. You can also check out our hitting heat map, which provides an illustration of which offenses have the best combination of matchup and potency.
Now, let's get to the stacks.
Washington Nationals
Jason Vargas probably isn't as bad as his 6.47 ERA might indicate, but it's still been rough going for him this season. He has just a 19.6% strikeout rate, and he's surrendered a 38.6% fly-ball rate and 35.4% hard-hit rate on the year.
Tonight's opposing offense, the Washington Nationals, boasts the second-highest walk rate (10.4%) against southpaws this year. And even more unfortunate for Vargas, they rank ninth in fly-ball rate (35.1%) in that same split.
Only Mike Trout has a higher walk rate than Bryce Harper's ($4,500) current 19.0% clip. Harper also adds in a 38.2% fly-ball rate, 42.1% hard-hit rate, and 12 steals on the year. Anthony Rendon ($4,300) has gone full beast mode against southpaws this year; he's got a 12.9% walk rate, 17.4% strikeout rate, 52.2% fly-ball rate, and 45.7% hard-hit rate against them. And young phenom Juan Soto ($4,000) has a 16.3% walk rate and 34.7% hard-hit rate this year.
Trea Turner ($3,900) has a 110 wRC+ against southpaws thanks to a 11.1% walk rate, an 11.7% strikeout rate, a 39.2% fly-ball rate, and 35.6% hard-hit rate in that split. Adam Eaton ($3,600) has got just a 16.2% strikeout rate to go with a 33.2% hard-hit rate this year. Meanwhile, Ryan Zimmerman ($3,100) enters play with a 199 wRC+ against southpaws as a result of a 15.0% walk rate, 15.0% strikeout rate, 35.7% fly-ball rate, and 48.2% hard-hit rate in the split.
