It's waiver time. One of the keys to any fantasy success is not only nailing your draft, but scouring that waiver wire for players that you can add to give your team a boost.
The four players below are all owned in fewer than 50% of Yahoo leagues and could give your squad a lift as you start off the season. It's never too early to consider some adds and drops for your team.
Clint Frazier - New York Yankees (OF)
Yahoo Ownership: 18%
The mash unit known as the New York Yankees took another hit last week when Giancarlo Stanton was forced to the Injured List with a biceps injury. With Aaron Hicks still unable to return, the highly touted prospect Clint Frazier could be forced into a prominent role.
Given the slew of talent available to the Bronx Bombers, it may be easy to forget about a guy like Frazier, but that would be a mistake. Last season in Triple-A, Frazier mashed his way to 10 homers and four steals in 218 plate appearances, and he's already hit three long balls in his short 2019 stint.
If you need some pop with a guy that could have some staying power, peep Frazier.
Ryan Brasier - Boston Red Sox (RP)
Yahoo Ownership: 47%
The closer carousel continues to spin, but the Boston Red Sox seem to have landed on Ryan Brasier as their closer, which means we need to run to the waiver wire immediately and snatch him up.
Struggling a bit at only 3-8 this season, the Sox come in as heavy playoff favorites, which should Braiser in plenty of line for save opportunities. Last year's closer, Craig Kimbrel, recorded 42 saves in 47 opportunities. There's some fantasy juice here.
Brasier isn't like your typical high-whiff closer. This season, he sports a 21.1% strikeout rate, and he posted a 23.4% in the majors a season ago. Don't expect a lot of strikeouts, but he could be a beneficial contributor in the saves category.
Yonny Chirinos - Tampa Bay Rays (SP)
Yahoo Ownership: 38%
Is Yonny Chirinos this year's Blake Snell for the Tampa Bay Rays? While I am sure that's what the Rays are dreaming for, back-to-back AL Cy Young Award winners is pretty unlikely. Still, Chirinos is ballin' out to start 2019, and he's worth an add to fantasy staffs.
Chirinos owns a microscopic 0.75 ERA over two starts and 12 innings pitched, posting a 29.0% strikeout rate against only a 2.6% walk rate. He's also upped his swinging-strike rate to 11.6% this season, and he has been absolutely pounding the strike zone with a 73.7% first-pitch strike rate.
Chirinos has posted solid strikeout rates throughout his minor league career, so this doesn't seem to be much of an aberration. If your rotation needs some help, check out the Rays starter.
Dansby Swanson - Atlanta Braves (SS)
Yahoo Ownership: 42%
Is the Dansby Swanson breakout that we've all been waiting for about to happen?
It's looking like a solid maybe. After struggling in the big leagues in 2017 with wOBA marks of .276 and .293, respectively, Swanson has sizzled to begin 2019 with a .346 batting average, .482 wOBA, and three homers in his first 34 plate appearances.
In past seasons where the short stop struggled, one thing he showcased was a keen batting eye -- Swanson recorded double-digit walk rates in his first two seasons, and currently has a 17.6% to go along with his other crisp marks this year.
The jury is still out to see if Swanson is for real, but he's definitely worth an add if you need help up the middle.
