3 Daily Fantasy Baseball Stacks for Monday 8/1/22

Stacks are an integral part of daily fantasy baseball. They can push a team to the top of a GPP by driving upside. However, they're also viable in cash games, namely smaller (two-person or three-person) stacks that mitigate the volatility of a full four-person stack.

This article is your home throughout the 2022 Major League Baseball season for the day's top stacks. The primary goal is to identify the highest-scoring upside stack. Still, game theory will play a role in contrarian stacks making the cut as GPP options. Nevertheless, chalky stacks will make appearances in this space, too.

Beyond my analysis in this space, I strongly suggest numberFire premium members using our DFS Sharpstack tool and hitting heat map tool. The DFS Sharpstack helps plug stacks into optimized lineups, allowing you to change parameters and lock or exclude players and teams. Meanwhile, the heat map offers a one-stop-shop for the opposing starting pitcher, implied total, park factor, and other notable goodies.

Now, let's look at the top stacks on today's main slate.

New York Mets

The New York Mets get the gift that keeps giving as long as the Washington Nationals keep penciling in Patrick Corbin. According to FanGraphs, Corbin has a 6.49 ERA and 5.71 Expected ERA (xERA) in 2022. Moreover, in 342 and 2/3 innings since 2020, Corbin has had a 5.80 ERA and 1.71 homers per nine innings.

The lefty has also been throwing batting practice to righties. The 388 right-handed batters who've faced Corbin this season have had a .377 OBP, .521 slugging percentage, and .387 wOBA. Corbin has no business in a big-league rotation, making him the perfect pitcher to stack against. The Mets carry a 4.84 implied total.

The premier pick from the Mets is Pete Alonso ($4,100). In his career, he's muscled up for a .304 ISO and 41 homers in 562 plate appearances against southpaws. The Mets also have cap-friendly options, specifically Mark Canha ($2,500) and J.D. Davis ($2,300). Thus, we can stack the Mets and use Max Scherzer in cash games and GPPs.

San Diego Padres

The San Diego Padres have a mouthwatering matchup on tap. Antonio Senzatela has recorded a 4.90 ERA and 5.67 xERA this season, and he's yielded a jaw-dropping 6.57 ERA on the road.

Senzatela has been incapable of taming lefties and righties. Lefties have touched him up for a .402 OBP, .463 slugging, and .379 wOBA. Meanwhile, righties have been better against him, amassing a .384 OBP, .572 slugging, and .408 wOBA.

The Colorado Rockies' bullpen is also a boon for San Diego's offensive outlook. Colorado's relievers have the third-highest ERA (4.57) this year. The Padres have a cushy matchup from the first pitch through the final out.

Manny Machado ($4,000) and Luke Voit ($3,200) are the two most attractive options for the Padres. However, w sehouldn't sleep on using lower-order hitters like Ha-Seong Kim ($2,600) and Nomar Mazara ($2,200) as punts and wrap-around stack options. Adventurous gamers who roll the dice on lower-salaried hitters in San Diego's offense can stack the Padres with Scherzer and the Mets' pffense and even add a stud -- such as Aaron Judge or Yordan Alvarez -- to the mix as a one-off pick.

Seattle Mariners

The Seattle Mariners are another stacking suggestion with an eye toward using Scherzer, Luis Garcia, or Mike Clevinger, a Mets stack, and one or both of Judge and Alvarez. They aren't a blind suggestion based entirely on low salaries, though.

Domingo German has made only two starts after opening the year on the Injured List. In 7 and 2/3 innings for the New York Yankees, he's walked three of 39 batters, hit one, and coughed up three homers. In short, German hasn't been sharp. Additionally, he's had a 4.62 ERA and allowed 1.70 homers per nine innings in his career, so he's not a pitcher to avoid.

Adam Frazier ($2,300) is a nifty punt in this stack right out of the chute, serving as Seattle's leadoff hitter against righties with Julio Rodriguez on the IL. Jesse Winker ($2,400) is also a sweet pick, hitting second against a righty yesterday. Since last year, Winker has had a .388 OBP, .213 ISO, and 143 wRC+ against right-handed pitchers. Finally, Eugenio Suarez ($3,000) is a power-chasing option, smashing righties for a .222 ISO since 2021.
