Nailing the waiver wire and the players available are critical to beating out your league-mates in season-long formats.
Each week we will take a look at players who are rostered in fewer than 50% of Yahoo leagues and can help out your season-long squads. Remember, if you aren’t scouring the waiver wire, you are falling behind. There's only two months left in the season -- let's go!
Clarke Schmidt, SP, New York Yankees
Roster Percentage: 12%
With Nestor Cortes hitting the Injured List, it seems like now is a good time for young hurler Clarke Schmidt to make some waves and try and earn a rotation spot, and he will get that first chance on Sunday.
The biggest challenge or worry with Schmidt is that he may not pitch very deep into games -- he only threw 60 pitches in his last outing, so he may not work too deep in the game against the Oakland Athletics.
However, Schmidt has pitched very well this season both at Triple-A and at the major league level. Primarily pitching as a reliever, he's whiffed 29 batters in 33 innings and posted a 2.16 ERA.
Down the fantasy baseball stretch, if you need some help in your rotation, peep Schmidt.
Ross Stripling, SP, Toronto Blue Jays
Roster Percentage: 56%
Another rotation add worthy of consideration is Ross Stripling, who has quality been a key member of the Toronto Blue Jays rotation.
In his last start, a quality one, Stripling gave up a single run in six innings over the Boston Red Sox.He's logged a 34% CSW rate, and he's whiffed 80 batters in 95 innings this season.
The Jays have a long road ahead of them to catch the New York Yankees, but Stripling is certainly trying to do his part.
Ha-Seong Kim, 2B/SS/3B, San Diego Padres
Roster Percentage: 20%
With Fernando Tatis Jr. and Juan Soto suffering from a variety of maladies, Ha-Seong Kim has filled in nicely to the super utility role for the San Diego Padres and is probably worthy of an add.
Not only does he provide some nice positional flexibility, Kim sprinkles in contributions across the board. In 398 at bats this season, he's popped seven homers and nine steals, and he's nearing 50 runs and RBIs as well.
He looks to have a path to significant playing time -- he's been leading off quite a bit -- and he's producing, making him a valuable add.
Mark Canha OF, New York Mets
Roster Percentage: 47%
Quick -- if there was a waiver wire outfielder that was under 50% owned, and he had driven almost 20 runs in the last month, would you want him?
Of course your answer would be hell yes, and that means Mark Canha deserves some of your attention.
The New York Mets outfielder has been utterly brilliant this season as New York is locked into a battle for the NL East title. One of the underrated components is that Canha is an on-base machine, and he's logged a .380 OBP this season, including a .430 mark over the last 30 days.
Add him if your outfield could use a boost.
