Building daily fantasy baseball lineups can be intimidating. On any given slate, you have a massive number of options in front of you and a ton of factors to consider.
We're here to help take some of that burden off and break down some hitters who you can slot into your lineup for nice and cheap, while still being well-positioned to provide your lineup with solid fantasy production.
Let's take a look at where we can find value on today's slate.
Matt Wieters, C, Baltimore Orioles
FanDuel Price: $2,800
Matt Wieters has had a bit of a slow start to the season, but he's in a terrific spot tonight against Martin Perez and the Rangers.
Wieters is a switch-hitter, and he does by far his best work from the right side of the plate, hitting against lefties, with a .355 wOBA and .205 ISO through his career.
On the other side of the equation, Perez makes for a pretty favorable matchup, sporting a career 4.21 SIERA, a 15.3 percent strikeout rate, and a .334 wOBA against right-handed hitters.
John Jaso, 1B, Pittsburgh Pirates
FanDuel Price: $2,900
Every Pirates lefty is on my radar tonight against Jimmy Nelson and the Brewers. Nelson has been awful against lefties through his career, allowing a .359 wOBA with a 17.2 percent strikeout rate and 9.2 percent walk rate.
John Jaso will likely be leading off for Pittsburgh, and he has had a solid start to the season and has been strong against right-handed pitching through his career with a .352 wOBA and .155 ISO.
Carlos Santana, 1B, Cleveland Indians
FanDuel Price: $3,000
Carlos Santana will be batting from the left side of the plate tonight against Bartolo Colon, and while Santana has a worse career wOBA against righties, it's a respectable .343, and that's where he hits with the most power, with a .198 ISO.
Colon's stats don't offer much reason for concern when targeting him in fantasy, and he has a 4.13 SIERA and 17.8 percent strikeout rate. He struggles most with left-handed hitters, allowing a .328 wOBA and 1.30 home runs per nine.
Preston Tucker, OF, Houston Astros
FanDuel Price: $2,500
I can't quit Preston Tucker this season, at least while his salary stays so low and especially when he's up against a right-handed pitcher.
In 257 career at-bats against righties so far, Tucker has been outstanding, with a .354 wOBA and a .253 ISO. The Astros have the highest implied total of the night at 4.85 and will be at home in one of the most hitter-friendly parks in the Majors.
He also has an incredible matchup against Mike Pelfrey, who is probably the worst pitcher on the slate today, sporting a 4.69 SIERA, with a 12.9 percent strikeout rate and allowing a .348 wOBA.
Mitch Moreland, OF, Texas Rangers
FanDuel Price: $2,700
The Rangers have the second-highest implied total of the night at 4.77 and have a good matchup against Vance Worley and the Orioles.
Worley has a 4.02 SIERA and allows a .327 wOBA to lefties and .332 to righties. Mitch Moreland, a lefty, is a nice budget-friendly way to get exposure to an effective part of the Rangers' lineup.
Moreland has a career .340 wOBA and .200 ISO against right-handed pitchers, with slightly better numbers at home at the hitter-friendly Globe Life, where today's game will take place.
