Stacking can be a controversial topic in many daily fantasy sports, but you can count baseball as a glaring exception. Here, it's universal.
Using multiple players on the same team on a given day presents you with the opportunity to double dip. If one of your players hits an RBI double, there's a good chance he drove in another one of your guys. When you get the points for both the run and the RBI, you'll be climbing the leaderboards fast.
Each day here on numberFire, we'll go through four offenses ripe for the stacking. They could have a great matchup, be in a great park, or just have a lot of quality sticks in the lineup, but these are the offenses primed for big days that you may want a piece of.
Premium members can use our new stacking feature to customize their stacks within their optimal lineups for the day, choosing the team you want to stack and how many players you want to include. You can also check out our hitting heat map, which provides an illustration of which offenses have the best combination of matchup and potency.
Now, let's get to the stacks. Here are the teams you should be targeting in daily fantasy baseball today.
Cincinnati Reds
The Cincinnati Reds have the the highest implied team total on the main slate, it's supposed to be a toasty 80 degrees in a spot with an above-average park factor, and they're facing the starter with the largest SIERA of the day. Giddy up.
Colorado Rockies starter Jordan Lyles could pin his career 5.18 ERA on playing his home games at Coors Field, but his 4.70 SIERA last year negates park factor. Additionally, his career strikeout rate is only 15.2% when the team is on the road. This is going to be a popular stack for all of those reasons, but it's still one in which we should invest.
Speaking of chalkiness, it's the lefties who pound Lyles the hardest. His xFIP against left-handed batters last year was 5.08 with a 15.8% strikeout rate and 14.0% walk rate while lefties only hit ground balls 42.1% of the time. This is a major bump up for both Joey Votto and Jay Bruce, who should be high on your list even if you don't end up stacking the Reds. You can certainly also use righties, but these two guys could be in for a big game tonight.
