Stacking can be a controversial topic in many daily fantasy sports, but you can count baseball as a glaring exception. Here, it's universal.
Using multiple players on the same team on a given day presents you with the opportunity to double dip. If one of your players hits an RBI double, there's a good chance he drove in another one of your guys. When you get the points for both the run and the RBI, you'll be climbing the leaderboards fast.
Each day here on numberFire, we'll go through four offenses ripe for the stacking. They could have a great matchup, be in a great park, or just have a lot of quality sticks in the lineup, but these are the offenses primed for big days that you may want a piece of.
Premium members can use our new stacking feature to customize their stacks within their optimal lineups for the day, choosing the team you want to stack and how many players you want to include. You can also check out our hitting heat map, which provides an illustration of which offenses have the best combination of matchup and potency.
Now, let's get to the stacks. As always, we will not be including tonight's game at Coors Field here. The over/under is 10.5 for a reason, so you don't need me to tell you to invest. Just spend wisely today as the pitching matchup is extremely difficult on both sides. Here are the other teams you should be targeting in daily fantasy baseball today.
San Francisco Giants
Everything about Shelby Miller's performance this year indicates that something isn't right. He has lost the ability to throw a first-pitch strike, he's not getting swings and misses, and his velocity is down. That could lead to destruction against an offense as good as the San Francisco Giants'.
Miller's SIERA is up at 5.98, the fifth-worst mark of any pitcher who has thrown at least 20 innings. That is the result of a 14.4% strikeout rate and 15.1% walk rate, a ratio that has actually been trending the wrong way over his past two starts. When you toss in a ground-ball rate that has dropped to 38.7% from 47.7%, you see why Miller is square in our stacking crosshairs.
The Giants aren't cheap on this slate, but I can guarantee you that Buster Posey is under-priced. He has a 40.3% hard-hit rate against right-handed pitchers this year with a 12.2% strikeout rate, so don't fret about his .256/.311/.402 slash. He only has 3 hits in his last 28 at-bats, which could potentially drive down ownership, so I'd be going all-in on this lil pup in tournaments, and he should be in play for cash, too.
