Stacking can be a controversial topic in many daily fantasy sports, but you can count baseball as a glaring exception. Here, it's universal.
Using multiple players on the same team on a given day presents you with the opportunity to double dip. If one of your players hits an RBI double, there's a good chance he drove in another one of your guys. When you get the points for both the run and the RBI, you'll be climbing the leaderboards fast.
Each day here on numberFire, we'll go through four offenses ripe for the stacking. They could have a great matchup, be in a great park, or just have a lot of quality sticks in the lineup, but these are the offenses primed for big days that you may want a piece of.
Premium members can use our new stacking feature to customize their stacks within their optimal lineups for the day, choosing the team you want to stack and how many players you want to include. You can also check out our hitting heat map, which provides an illustration of which offenses have the best combination of matchup and potency.
Now, let's get to the stacks. With the split slates on tap, we'll be focusing exclusively on the main slate beginning at 7 pm Eastern. Here are the teams you should be targeting in daily fantasy baseball today.
Colorado Rockies
There are truly few things in this world less appealing than stacking the Colorado Rockies on the road. They're generally over-priced, and their offense is below average when they leave the friendly air of Coors Field. It's just hard to find a team that couldn't drop a big number on Clay Buchholz right now.
Buchholz easily holds the honor as the pitcher with the highest SIERA on the slate today at 5.19. A potential explanation for that would be common, early-season struggles, but he has actually been chugging in the wrong direction. Over his last four starts, that SIERA leaps to 5.93 with a 13.0% strikeout rate and 11.7% walk rate. Dude is getting peppered like nobody's business.
One guy who doesn't carry the burden of an inflated price tag is Carlos Gonzalez, but that's because he has been simply wretched ever since about midway through April. That said, things are starting to get a bit shinier for good ol' CarGo. He was held out of the lineup back on May 11th in what you could assume was an attempt to shake him out of his slump. Since then, he has struck out in only 14.6% of his 41 plate appearances, and he has propped his fly-ball rate back up to 39.4%. It looks like that slump may soon be a thing of the past, allowing him to do things like this again.
Laser taters for days, son. It's worth it to give him a shot today and see if his recent improvements can turn into more fruitful results.
