Stacking can be a controversial topic in many daily fantasy sports, but you can count baseball as a glaring exception. Here, it's universal.
Using multiple players on the same team on a given day presents you with the opportunity to double dip. If one of your players hits an RBI double, there's a good chance he drove in another one of your guys. When you get the points for both the run and the RBI, you'll be climbing the leaderboards fast.
Each day here on numberFire, we'll go through four offenses ripe for the stacking. They could have a great matchup, be in a great park, or just have a lot of quality sticks in the lineup, but these are the offenses primed for big days that you may want a piece of.
Premium members can use our new stacking feature to customize their stacks within their optimal lineups for the day, choosing the team you want to stack and how many players you want to include. You can also check out our hitting heat map, which provides an illustration of which offenses have the best combination of matchup and potency.
Now, let's get to the stacks. With the split slates, we'll be focusing exclusively on the main slate beginning at 7 pm Eastern. Here are the teams you should be targeting in daily fantasy baseball today.
Chicago Cubs
After what James Shields did to them last night, I can't blame you if you're off these Chicago Cubs. That was straight bloody, and those scars don't heal quickly. However, their matchup is even juicier tonight, and the allure of offense on a slate overflowing with high-strikeout pitchers is overwhelming.
Anthony Ranaudo is set to make his debut for the Chicago White Sox after coming over earlier this year from the Texas Rangers. He made 13 starts at Triple-A for the Sox, and he struggled mightily with a 16.9% strikeout rate. In his 58 1/3 career big-league innings, that number falls to 10.6% with a 12.1% walk rate, pushing his SIERA up to 6.03. Even though the Cubs' sticks aren't cheap, it's likely in your best interests to squeeze a few of them into your rosters.
With regards to those prices, it's not all doom and gloom. Once you get to the five hole, we start to get batters like Addison Russell, Willson Contreras, and Javier Baez. They're all relatively cheap, and they're all right-handed, which is key against Ranaudo and his career 7.0% strikeout rate against righties. Russell would be the top target on the list with his 15.2% strikeout rate and 13.9% soft-hit rate the past month, but we'll also want a bit of this sauciness in our lives.
