According to manager David Ross, Chicago Cubs pitcher Hayden Wesneski will compete for the fifth rotation spot.
While Kyle Hendricks is sidelined with a right shoulder injury, Wesneski is among three options contending for the last spot in Chicago's rotation including Adrian Sampson and Javier Assad. Expect the 25-year old to emerge as a late-round option in yearly fantasy leagues if he can win a starting role.
In four starts last season, Wesneski produced a 3.87 expected Fielding Independent Pitching rating, a 12.7% swinging strike percentage, and a 22.4% K-rate.
