Houston Astros pitcher Lance McCullers (arm) will not be available for the start of the 2023 season.
McCullers, who was shut down four days ago due to arm soreness, had an MRI on Tuesday that revealed a "small muscle strain". He will be shut down for a few weeks and Opening Day is "out of the question". The MRI did not reveal any structural damage.
In 47.7 innings pitched for Houston last season, McCullers recorded a 2.27 ERA with 50 strikeouts, 22 walks, and a 1.24 WHIP.
