Los Angeles Angels catcher Max Stassi suffered a hip injury in a minor league game and is unlikely to be available for the team's Opening Day game against the Oakland Athletics.
Stassi had been away from the team while attending to a personal matter for much of spring training, and unfortunately suffered a hip injury during a minor league game shortly after returning to the team. While the severity of the injury is not yet known, it currently seems like the veteran backstop will not start the season on the main roster. His absence will likely lead to Logan O'Hoppe starting against the A's on Opening Day.
O'Hoppe made 16 plate appearances in his quick stint with the Angels a season ago, batting .286 in the process. Our models currently project him to make 385 plate appearances in the majors this season, with 8 homers, 34 runs, 38 RBI, and a .227 batting average.
