San Diego Padres outfielder Matt Carpenter is not in the lineup for Thursday afternoon's series finale against right-hander Luis Ortiz and the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Carpenter will sit after going 1-for-2 with a walk on Wednesday. He has only been in the lineup once over the last 10 games. Rougned Odor will enter the lineup to play right field and hit sixth. Fernando Tatis Jr. will shift to designated hitter and the leadoff spot while Ha-Seong Kim drops to the seven-hole. Juan Soto will hit second and Manny Machado will bat third, followed by Xander Bogaerts in the cleanup role and Jake Cronenworth in the fifth spot of the lineup.
numberFire’s models project Odor ($2,300) for 8.8 and Tatis ($4,300) for 14.6 FanDuel points on Thursday. Per our MLB Heat Map, the Padres' implied total is 4.83 and the game total is 8.5. Ortiz has an ugly 6.26 xERA and his strikeout rate (15.2%) is in the bottom 6th percentile of the majors this season.
