The Tampa Bay Rays and Cleveland Guardians have agreed on a trade that will send RHP Aaron Civale to the Rays, ESPN's Jeff Passan reports.
The Guardians will send Civale, who was set to become a free agent following the season, to the Rays in exchange for first baseman prospect Kyle Manzardo. Manzardo worked his way up to the Triple-A level this season, posting a .783 OPS through 313 plate appearances.
Civale should immediately provide a boost to a Rays pitching group that has dealt with severe injuries all season. He has leveraged a strong 2.34 ERA into a 5-2 record, carries a 1.04 WHIP, and has struck out 58 batters while only walking 22.
